Claudia Boldt
Claudia writes and illustrates bitter-sweet comedies starring animal characters who struggle to be their better selves. She has authored and illustrated Outfoxed (Tate), Melvin the Luckiest Monkey in the World (Tate), You’re a Rude Pig, Bertie (North South), among others, which have been translated into twelve languages, and has created images for many more, including Animalicious: A Quirky ABC Book (Penguin Workshop), The Ghosts Go Marching (Random House Books), The Poop Song (Chronicle Books), Think and Make Like an Artist (Thames & Hudson). Her absolute favorite animals to draw are sausage dogs. Growing up in Germany she was a big fan of everything created by Jim Henson, Richard Scarry and Charles Schulz. Maybe that's why she ended up living in Los Angeles. Today her favorite stories are ones that are equally funny and meaningful. Her work has been selected for the Bologna Illustrators Exhibition as well as the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and she was a winner of the British Book Trust Best New Illustrators Award. Claudia studied design, illustration, and screenwriting and loves to collect all sorts of degrees from, among others, Glasgow School of Art, Kingston University, and UCLA. She’ll start her PhD when she turns 90. Before that she would like to see her characters on TV.
If her current career doesn't pan out, she intends to become a horse whisperer.
