The Quiet One

The Quiet One
by Yiting Lee

Life is not always easy for quiet people. In this tender story, creativity and trust form the fertile terrain for overcoming shyness and making new friends.

Milly doesn’t like speaking in front of groups. She doesn’t know if it’s her shyness that makes her stutter or if her stutter makes her shy.  Either way, she knows that Show and Tell is coming up and that she’d do anything to avoid it. So she hides out in her secret place, spending time on her own, making things with her hands, building machines from scrap. One day, a cleaning robot she’s fixed starts to talk. His name is Arnold and they soon become fast friends.  Arnold convinces her to bring him with her to school for Show and Tell.  Arnold starts off the talk but when he doesn’t know what he is made out of, Milly chimes in and together they share the amazing things they invented, opening their secret world to new friends.
